23 October 2023

Following extensive flooding from the River Greet, Arena Racing Company, (“ARC”) can confirm the abandonment of a further four scheduled fixtures at Southwell Racecourse.

Having lost the fixture on Monday 23 October, fixtures on 26 and 30 October as well as those on 2, 4, 15, 17 and 22 November have all also been abandoned.

Further details with regards the relocation of any of these fixtures will be confirmed by BHA in due course.

Managing Director of ARC’s Racing Division, Mark Spincer, said, “Storm Babet has caused significant amount of damage in the area, with the River Greet reaching record high levels and breaching the flood defences around the Racecourse.

“Numerous areas of the Racecourse, including the track, remain underwater today and it is likely to be a few more days until we can fully understand the impact to both the turf and tapeta tracks, and any further damage to facilities.”

“As and when we have a clearer picture, we will issue a further update with regards ongoing fixtures scheduled from 15 November onwards.”
