Southwell Racecourse Floodlight Development Delayed

19 December 2018

Southwell Racecourse can today announce a delay to the completion of the installation of floodlights at the racecourse.

Despite good progress on the delivery and erection of the lights and towers, an unforeseen issue with the supply and installation of cabling means that the first six scheduled evening fixture on 29th January, 5th, 18th, 22nd, 28th of February and the 5th March will no longer take place at Southwell.  These fixtures have been moved to other AW courses around the UK.

Work on the power supply to the floodlights within the racecourse grounds will continue up until Christmas and into the New Year.  The first fixture under floodlights is now set to take place on Thursday 14th March.

The official Grand Opening fixture will take place on Saturday 30th March, where there will be a light show and an appearance from a famous Southwell equine cult hero!! Racegoers can gain FREE Grandstand admission tickets by entering promo code "LIGHTS19" onto the tickets page.

Executive Director of Southwell Racecourse, Mark Clayton, said, “Unfortunately, it has recently come to our attention that some delays to the supply and installation of the internal power cabling will knock us back a few weeks on completing the installation of the floodlights.”

“Prior to racing taking place, we obviously have to undergo a series of tests and trials, so we have taken the decision to put back our first floodlit fixture to make sure that we have adequate time to complete this work.

“Our thanks must go to BHA for their assistance and understanding at this time, we will update with further news on our launch date in due course when we have a clearer picture of progress in early January”.
